“Pay attention to the layout of your business dashboard” is the message of this fourth video in the series of Tips for Dashboard Report Design from IIR Executive Development.

The rule of thumb is that the more important the information, the closer to the top left corner of dashboard you should put it. Conversely, the less important the material, the closer to the bottom right side of the screen you would place it.

This is because, as explained in the video, “the user’s eye is naturally drawn to the top left of the sheet”.

Does the “top left”-rule apply to middle east countries too?
or is it just western countries…
And far east like china, and japan?

Um, yeah.. and around the world a month is longer than a day, but I would at least suggest changing shirts for “monthly” updates. You really lose any credibility, on top of short and basically insignificant dashboarding “tips” which are common sense. Data visualization is a scientific specialty around human perceptions, so there should be a lot more value to deliver than bold colors and right to left arrangements.
