SAP KPI Wiki
SAP has set up a wiki with the goal of defining a common (Key Performance Indicator) KPI language that is widely accepted by the business metrics community. This video explains the rationale and spirit behind the project.
The mission statement for the SAP KPI Wiki project:
Why do we need business KPIs?
Business KPIs enable a company to measure and monitor its performance. Comparing actual KPI values to targets shows shortcomings immediately, and identifies improvement potentials at the same time. This is vital for every company.
More from the video:
Why do we need a common language for KPIs?
Benchmarking has become more and more important in today’s business world. Every company wants to compare its performance to the one of market leaders. This is only possible if everyone speaks the same language, that is, everyone uses the identical KPIs with the same definition and calculation formula.
Why do we need a KPI Wiki?
Because everyone should participate and contribute. We believe that it is the best way to involve all stakeholders, that is, SAP customers, partners, SAP experts, in the process of definining the common KPI language.
The presentation of KPIs of course is at the heart of every business intelligence dashboard. We typically think of either rich-client software applications or web-based dashboards, but there is now another paradigm to add to our design toolset. - Desktop Dashboards. What do I mean? Think desktop widgets/gadgets. They appear when you log into your pc. Imagine getting business KPIs and alerts without having to bring up and log into your business intelligence application.
There are examples of such desktop KPI dashboards at www.klipfolio.com.
